Description
The design of these carpets is truly unique, with a fascinating mysterious medallion in the centre. Besides the Chelebis, this design is found in Barjid carpets of South Azerbaijan and nowhere else in the Orient. The medallion is thought to represent a double-headed bird believed to guard the Paradise in oriental mythology. Acruciform in the centre of the medallion symbolises four primal elements (earth, water, air and fire). The ring is decorated by fantastic birds often woven in the Chelebi rugs.
