Description
This piece has been inspired by S element often found in Garabakh border motifs. The S or Z element is a common element in tribal weaving and used as a medallion filler motif and border. Some researchers suggest that S symbolizes a serpent or dragon, deriving ultimately from Chinese dragon motif. The other suggests that S-shaped ornaments resemble funnelled flow of water and thus hint at a settled-down, ameliorated way of life or, according to other interpretations, at fertility and immortality.
