Description
Some interpretations say tortoise was a symbol of wisdom and long life in carpets. It isthoughtthatthesetypesof medallionsare derived from the 16th-18th century “Dragon rugs”. Often an image of scorpion is woven in the center of medallion. The scorpion represents defense. Some opinions suggest that their continued presence tought children to be unafraid and, therefore lessened the risk ofthembeingstung byattemptingtoshrink away from a live example.
