Description
A Neanderthal-like jaw bone found in Azykh cave in 1968 was assumed to be over 350,000 years old and is believed to belong to a proto-human, i.e. Azykhantrop, considered the 5th oldest finding of this kind in the world. The monuments of Garakopektepe, Gunashtapa and Garabulag in Fuzuli also represent ancient cultural sites of the Azerbaijani people. Fuzuli is additionally an ancient land of carpet weaving. The world-famous “Bahmanli” carpet was woven here. Fuzuli was first established as Garabulag in 1827, then Garyageen, and since 1959 was renamed as Fuzuli in honor of the 400th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mohammad Fuzuli.
