Description

Irevan city and its tower flourished during the reign of Huseinali Khan Qajar and his son Muhammed Khan. Sardar Palace was also built during the reign of Huseinali Khan and was renovated by one of the greatest architects of his time, Mirza Jafar Khoylu. After the construction of the Mirrored Salon and Summer Mansion in Muhammed Khan Qajar’s palace in 1791 this magnificent building was completed as a monumental palace complex.

According to this history of the Irevan Khanate, the Sardar palace began to collapse in the middle of the 19th century, and so paintings and other property from the palace were moved to Tbilisi in the beginning of the 20th century. However, the palace still existed during the first years of the Soviet Union, and was one of the sights of the city, the Irevan Tower was destroyed in 1964 by Soviet Armenia and razed to the ground. Unfortunately, the truth about the fate of the palace and its treasures is still unclear to historians.
