Description
Zagatala, also known as Zakataly district, is a cluster of villages situated approximately 75 miles north of Ganja in the central Caucasus. Given its geographical proximity, motifs from the Zakatala district could arguably be associated with those of Qazakh. These motifs share many similarities and are classified as a distinct group due to their presence on 19th-century and early 20th-century rugs, which have recently entered the Western market. Apart from the motifs highlighted here, Zakatala rugs also feature elements such as Lesghi stars, Memling guls, and the Fachralo (Fakhrali) medallion.
