Description
Islimi is the favourite Islamic decorative theme which may be described as a split leaf called “islimi” also known as “arabesque” or “tendril”. Derived from a Sassanian motif, it developed under the Abbasids in the ninth and tenth centuries and matured under the Seljuks in the twelfth and thirteenth. Islimi became very popular in eastern village rugs after fifteenth century.
