Description

These carpets are presented as Ganja or Caucasian carpets in foreign sources, while local researchers call them ‘Shadili’ after a village where this type of carpets was first woven. The main occupation of Shadili tribes used to be sheep and cattle farming, and so carpet-making in wool was well developed here. Zoomorphic elements are depicted in the complex compositions of the Aghstapha carpets. The symmetrical, mirror-image ornaments, shaped in a form of horn and colourful birds, are commonly found on carpets from this region.
