Description
Short texts in Arabic alphabet were engraved on the pottery; images of horses, camels, gazelles, hares, francolins, as well as geometric and botanical ornaments were drawn on pieces found during archaeological excavations carried out in Beylagan and Gabala. One particular green-coloured, basket-shaped glazed plate is highly distinctive. The lower parts of the plates often bear the seals of various masters’ workshops and sometimes of artisan workshops. For example, the words ‘made by Ali’ in Arabic, along with design elements of the mosque are depicted on the top of the household pot found during archaeological excavations. The names of two craftsmen, Badal and Sadulla, were engraved on two gracefully-designed plates found in Beylagan.
