Description
“Islimi” is the favourite Islamic decorative theme which may be described as a split leaf called Islimi also known as “Arabesque” or “Tendril”. Derived from a Sassanian motif, it developed under the Abbasids in the 9th and 10th centuries and matured under the Seljuks in the 12th and 13th. Islimi became very popular in eastern village rugs after 15th century. Also, the most ancient oriental motif – buta has been depicted on the model.
