Description
Islimi is one of the favourite Islamic decorative theme which may be described as a split leaf also known as “arabesque” or “tendril”. Derived from a Sassanian motif, it developed under the Abbasids in the ninth and tenth centuries and matured under the Seljuks in the twelfth and thirteenth. It became very popular in eastern village rugs after fifteenth century.
Islimi is one of the popular ornaments in Azerbaijan.
