Description
Maraza is situated in Gobustan region, close to Gobustan – an extraordinary open air museum of petroglyphs, pre-historic images carved on rocks. Maraza carpets are often known as ‘Gobustan’. Carpets from this region have a unique composition which differentiates them from other Azerbaijani carpets. Butas (paisley symbols) woven in different forms and vertical lines with flower-zoomorphic ornaments reflect culture and the living habits of local people. The bird and horned rhomb depicted on this model are typical in the dark-red ‘Maraza’ carpets, and according to local beliefs they protect against resentful souls.
