Description
Situated in the most picturesque region of Azerbaijan, Shaki is recognized as one of the oldest human settlements in the Caucasus, with archaeological evidence of human habitation dating back over 2500 years. The majestic Shaki Khan Palace stands as a testament to the city’s rich history. Constructed in the 18th century, the palace is a unique marvel, built entirely without the use of nails or glue. Instead, the innovative lattice-work technique, involving the assembly of wood and colored glass, was employed in its construction.
Shaki has long been renowned as a city of skilled artisans, craftsmen, and silk producers, attracting merchants from various Silk Road countries. As a result, considerable attention was given to the construction of caravanserais, serving as hotels for the visiting merchants.
