Description
Zakatala or Zakataly district is a group of villages about 75 miles north of Ganja in the central Caucasus. Because of its location motifs from the Zakatala district should, perhaps, have been considered with those of Qazakh. Their motifs have much in common. These motifs are presented as a separate group because they appear on 19th century and early 20th century rugs only recently imported into the Western market. In addition to the motifs shown here, Lesghi stars, Memling guls, and the Fachralo (Fakhrali) medallion are found in Zakatala rugs.
