Description
Zangilan was the name of the historical district where the city and surrounding villages are located. However, because of the root word “Pir”, the district has been called Zangilan since 1930. In 1967, Zangilan was given the status of a city. Different castles, observation posts, material and cultural samples found during archeological excavations, as well as ancient coins and household utensils can help research to be carried out on the historic roots of the region. The Vejnali gold mine, as well as rare, beautiful forests of plane trees are yet another natural wealth of Zangilan. The region was occupied by Armenia from 29.10.1993 to 20.10.2020.
